Crowns
A crown is a restoration that covers or caps a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Its purpose is to strengthen and improve the appearance of the tooth. A Crown is placed for a number or reasons:
- to support a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining
- to attach a bridge
- to protect weak teeth from fracturing
- to restore fractured teeth
- to cover badly shaped or discolored teeth.
Bridges
A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. A fixed bridge is made up of three or more crowns fused fixed together to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding the bridge in place are attached to your natural teeth on each side of the false tooth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.
